Man Arrested After Allegedly Threatening to Set Girlfriend on Fire

Oakland Park, FL - A Broward County man was arrested for allegedly threatening to set his girlfriend on fire with lighter fluid and brandishing a gun during a domestic dispute.

Police say 40-year-old Mark Confessore was arrested by the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) on domestic violence and assault charges.

According to BSO, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in Oakland Park on May 1st at around 10 p.m.

The victim, Confessore's girlfriend of five years with whom he shares two children, reported that an argument reportedly began at a doctor's office earlier in the day and continued at their home.

The report details escalating arguments, property damage, and threats between the couple.

The victim stated Confessore shoved her onto the bed before he allegedly grabbed lighter fluid and sprayed it on the victim while she was holding a child.

The report states Confessore then threatened to light the woman on fire.

When an unidentified person intervened, Confessore allegedly brandished a gun and threatened further violence.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find Confessore outside with a gun on the ground.

A search revealed a lighter in his possession.

Confessore was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse without great bodily harm, and battery.

He is currently being held at the Broward Main Jail with bond yet to be determined.
