Chico DeBarge Reportedly Arrested For Meth Possession

2009 Soul Train Awards - Show

Chico DeBarge has since been released following drug possession arrest this weekend.

According to TMZ, who broke the story on Saturday night (November 30), the “No Guarantee” crooner and younger brother of the family act, DeBarge, was reportedly busted earlier this month after cops saw him using a wire to jimmy the lock of an SUV in a Walmart parking lot in Burbank, California. Seeing as it appeared to police that Chico was attempting to break into the vehicle, officers searched and arrested the star after allegedly discovering methamphetamine in his pockets.

As it turns out, the 53-year-old was, in fact, the owner of the car, which the celebrity gossip outlet also indicates contained drug paraphernalia as well. Before his released, the musician was being held in Burbank City Jail on charges pending by the city attorney.

Chico experienced stardom in the late-‘80s with the release of his self-titled debut album, which spawned his hit single “Talk to Me.”

This isn’t the first instance Chico has been jailed on drug possession charges. In 2007, the entertainer was arrested on similar charges in California, and later admitted himself into rehab. He detailed his struggles with substance abuse — involving addictions to heroin, prescription medicine, and cocaine — in his 2009 album, Addiction.
