Miami Beach To Examine "Use of Force" Policy Later This Month

The death of George Floyd prompting South Florida police departments to put their "use of force" policies under the microscope. Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber says he wants to get a report from Police Chief Richard Clements at their June 24th commission meeting to take an in-depth look at their use of force policy to see how evolved it is-and if anything needs to be tweaked to ensure best practices. Gelber wants the report to focus on the 6 pillars of policing---building trust, policy and oversight, technology and social media, community relations, training and officer wellness. He says transparency is key for police and the public.
