(Wilton Manors, FL) -- Police are working to find out why a pickup truck drove into a crowd at a Florida Pride event, killing one person and leaving another seriously injured.

A senior official for Wilton Manors Police says initial indications are leaning towards the belief this was an accident, but it's still too early to confirm.

The truck just missed hitting the car Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was in.

The driver told police his foot got stuck between the gas pedal and the brake causing him to lose control. The President of the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus believes this was an accident, saying the driver and victims are part of the choral group.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis originally said he witnessed the crash and thought it seemed deliberate.

The Wilton Manors Stonewall Parade and Festival is an LGBTQ event. The parade was cancelled following the tragedy.
