Naples, FL - A Southwest Florida teenager has been arrested for causing a fatal December crash after speeding through a red light.

The Naples Police Department (NPD) announced the arrest of 18-year-old Alexis Martinez Alonso in connection with the fatal December 2023 crash.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on December 15th at the intersection of Neapolitan Way and US-41 North.

Alonso was reportedly driving a black Infiniti southbound on US-41 when he disregarded a red light.

Police reports indicate Alonso was initially traveling at 66 mph, but recklessly accelerated to 81 mph in an attempt to beat the signal.

The maneuver involved passing multiple vehicles that were slowing down for the upcoming red light when Alonso's Infiniti collided with a white Audi at the intersection.

The impact inflicted serious injuries on the Audi's occupants.

Mary McNamara, a 66-year-old passenger, succumbed to her injuries a week later while undergoing treatment at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Following a thorough investigation, NPD obtained an arrest warrant for Martinez Alonso.
